So here I am, writing this in Mendoza about to fly to Salta tomorrow. Its a very interesting country, inflation is wild yet there are people out on the street everywhere, and being summer at the start of the year, they’re all out travelling. Plus, the food is pretty good here. Certainly an interesting place.
Patagonia is stunning, amazing place and we happened to have fantastic weather. Apparently it can be quite chaotic there, so we must have gotten very lucky. Plus, walking on a glacier is literally out of this world. Had a pretty good Argentinian barbeque for Christmas dinner, which was pretty special.
Buenos Aires is an amazing city, very varied with an interesting mix of styles. Recoletta feels just out of Paris, with San Telmo feeling like its on the verge of a hipster gentrification and Palmero having some pretty neat nightlife. Its kinda weird how late the Argentinians go out though, dinner at 9, drinks after and clubs at 2/3. Bit of an adjustment. Plus it was an interesting place to spend new years, as the Argentinians spend it with their family, so the streets were mostly full of tourists. Found a decent club for there though.
After BA, went to Cordoba for a couple of nights, which was kinda nice, but absent of students felt a bit empty. Mendoza after still, which is a pretty city, with the Andes visible from most places and they’re just stunning. Went white water rafting which was cool, although the water was dirty was still neat to be on glacial water. Been a bit slower here, walking around the city and people watching. Did a wine tour too, and saw some pretty wineries, can’t comment on the wine though, not really my thing.
Unfortunately injured myself here too. Went for a bus trip to Uspallata, which is in the mountains and has some nice views, where you can just see Aconcagua. The problem came when I tried to adjust my bus seat on the way back and it sprung back a bit too fast. Caught my finger along the way and took off a bit of the tip. Ran to the hospital where the cleaned, disinfected, stitched and dressed it, so I can check off using a hospital on this trip. The staff were very nice, and it was interesting trying to communicate with my broken Spanish. This does change what I can do for a bit now, Unfortunately ruling out hiking Aconcagua and other physical activities. Should be fine in a few weeks though, no doctor seems too concerned, but still sucks to have happened.
Nonetheless, still having a good time and enjoying it here. Argentina is mostly a desert, and has some interesting landscapes. Salta should be interesting too, everyone talks highly of it, being right in the desert. Thinking of heading to the Atacama desert after, which seems absolutely stunning, although I’ll have to watch out for my fingers there.
