Getting very bored over lockdown pt 2

Published August 28, 2020

This whole lock down thing is really getting to being a chore. The first time it was alright, there wasn’t much happening and with the whole world going into it, it was kind of exciting. We were watching the whole world got crazy and we were all along for the ride, participating in our own way. It was great when we were watching the world taking after us in stocking up on toilet paper. Its not often something we start takes on to the whole world.

But this time its different. The US in even more crazy than usual. Europe is opening up, accepting a life living with COVID. New Zealand was going great, having life go as usual. And there we were, still in lock down, trying to get our numbers down to basically zero while the world around us seems to be getting back to some semblance of normal. What makes it worse is that the rest of the country is opening up again, but we happen to have this spike in Victoria, so while everyone else is seeing each other and living normally, we’re still stuck at home by ourselves.

If the first lock down felt like we were just part of the club, along for the ride, this time round it feels like we’re on the outside watching in at everyone having fun. Its really getting tiring. The government is doing a decent job communicating and trying to keep the numbers down, but they can only do so much. There are people who are still having parties and those who are going out. At this point I couldn’t give a damn about them, I just want everyone to do their part so that we can get back to as normal as possible. Then there’s the bloody suburbs which are protesting masks, like dandernong. I mean, come on, its not that hard, they’re not that restrictive, just wear one. They’re going to be part of our lives for the rest of the year, if not next also. Just suck in your pride or what ever you think is your justification for this and help everyone to get past this. No one likes it, but unfortunately we can’t get rid of it by ourselves, we need to work together.

This whole thing just sucks. We just need everyone to do their part to reduce the numbers. That probably involves accepting that life needs to change in the short to medium term, and they just need to put up with it. It’s getting pretty dull, and everyone’s ready for the next thing but we can’t move on unless we get it under control, or at least to some reasonable level. I still can’t believe that other countries are opening up with numbers that are as high as we had in the worst of it. Not like I want to join them in their numbers, but do want to join in life returning to normal.
