HTTPS finally set up

Published September 12, 2019

Finally I have gotten around to setting HTTPS on this site. Had I known it was so easy, I would have done this when I initially created the site. OpenSSL and Certbot have definitely gotten the process down to a T.

After going to the Certbot site to search for a guide (which was immediately apparent from the homepage), all I had to do was describe the system I was using and it gave me very simple command line instructions to set up and automatically move this site to HTTPS (literally downloading the package and running sudo certbot –apache. It even allowed me to anonymise my email in the set up.

Overall, I’d have to say that this is among the easiest experiences I’ve had with setting up this website, and at last I can get rid of the “This website is unsecured prompt” from my browser.
